Shannan Calcutt is a multi-talented performer. She works as a clown,
actress, fire-eater, writer, director and teacher. Shannan studies clown
with the world renowned Sue Morrison at the Canadian Clown Institute
in Toronto. She is a graduate of the Dell"Arte International School
of Physical Theatre, in Blue lake, Ca. She also has a BFA, with distinction
, from th University of Victoria.
Shannan Calcutt has been touring North America non-stop since June of
1999 as her clown Izzy and has developed a reputation as one of Canada's
foremost clowns. Her critically-acclaimed Izzy trilogy includes: BURNT
TONGUE, IT'S ME, ONLY BETTER! and OUT OF MY SKIN. All three pieces have
played to sold out houses and received standing ovations across Canada,
including the Vancouver International Comedy Festival (where she is
a regular performer) and Alberta Theatre Project's playRites Festival.
BURNT TONGUE has aired on CBC's national radio program Definitely Not
The Opera. IT'S ME, ONLY BETTER! has received numerous five star reviews
and had great success at the Vancouver International Comedy Festival,
the Kelowna International Comedy Festival, and Edmonton's Comedy Arts
Festival.
OUT OF MY SKIN ("Calcutt's greatest stage triumph yet." Five Stars,
Winnipeg Free Press) opened at The City of Fools International Clown
Festival in Chicago, and played to full houses and standing ovations
at the Orlando International Fringe Festival where Calcutt was nominated
for best female performer. OUT OF MY SKIN had a sold out Canadian premiere
at Intrepid Theatre's prestigious UNO Festival of Solo Performance in
Victoria. Most recently, OUT OF MY SKIN was Robert Enright's 'Number
2 Pick of the Fringe' on CBC TV at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.
